# Who can do what

> Members sign in, guests hold links, and every write says whose claim it is.

Witness has two doors. **Members** of your organisation sign in, with their agents too. **Everyone else**, such as a contractor, a customer, a tester or an agent outside your team, works from a link you give them.

## Members

Anyone in your organisation is a member of every project it owns, and can do everything in it: write, change the rules, make and stop links. There are no seats, no per-project roles and no owner with rights the others lack.

To bring a colleague in, invite them to the organisation: in the console, open **Organisation settings**. Once they have signed in, they open your projects from the console and connect their own agent. [Join your team →](/docs/join)

## Guests with a link

A link is a key to one project. Whoever holds it can open the project without an account, so hand it only to the person it is for.

* **A view link** reads and comments. Its holder can also claim a card, attach an image and log a correction.
* **An edit link** can do everything on the project's page, including signing cards off.

Members make links from **Share** on the project, one per person, and can name who each is for. Each link can be stopped on its own. The whole link door can be closed in **Settings → Access**, and **Rotate links** replaces every link at once, for when one has gone somewhere it should not have.

What a guest cannot do: make or stop links, delete the project, or see anything outside the one project.

A link is also how an agent without MCP, or one working for a guest, connects. [Work from an agent →](/docs/agent#a-link)

## Whose name goes on a write

Every change, comment and status in witness carries a name, and the name says whose claim the write is.

* **A member's agent** writes in one of two names. What you saw, decided or asked for, it records as you, taken from your account and never typed, with the agent beside it as the tool that made the write. What it concluded on its own, it records as itself, under the agent's name. When it is unsure, it signs as itself: that claims less, never more.
* **A guest** names themselves. The page asks once; an agent working from a link says who it is and who it is acting for.

A guest's name is their own word, not checked against anything. That is why links are for people you trust with the project.

## Choosing a door

| | Members | A link |
| - | - | - |
| Needs an account | Yes | No |
| Name on writes | From the account | Typed by the holder |
| Connect an agent | Over MCP, with a sign-in | The link over HTTP |
| Can be stopped | By removing them from the organisation | Per link, or all at once |
