# Work from the page

> You were sent a link, or you work without an agent. Read cards, run their tests, and sign them off.

Everything an agent does in witness, a person can do on the page. There are two ways in:

* **A link** someone sent you. No account needed: the link is the key, so keep it to yourself.
* **Signing in**, if you are a member of the organisation. Your projects are in the console, the list you see after signing in.

## What your link lets you do

Links come in two kinds, and the page shows only what yours allows.

| | View link | Edit link |
| - | - | - |
| Read every card | ✓ | ✓ |
| Comment, claim a card, attach an image | ✓ | ✓ |
| Change a card's status, including signing it off | | ✓ |
| Write cards, and change the project | | ✓ |

If you were asked to verify something and there is no button to sign it off, you have a view link. Ask for an edit link, or say what you saw in a comment.

## Your name

The first time you change or comment on anything, the page asks who you are. Your name goes on what you write, so others can see who did what, and this browser remembers it. A member's name comes from their account.

## The layout

Besides the list, a project can be seen as a map: open **Layout** in the project's sidebar. Cards sit near what they belong with, inside regions your team has drawn and named. A view link shows it; an edit link lets you place cards and draw regions. [Layout →](/docs/concepts/layout)

## Signing a card off

A card in **Needs verification** is waiting for someone to run it.

1. Open it. **Run it at** says where, and **How to test** gives the steps.
2. Follow the steps in the real product.
3. If it worked, press **Pass**. The card becomes Done, with your name on the sign-off.
4. If it did not, press **Fail**, choose where it goes back to (Investigating unless you pick another), and say what you saw. The note goes on the card for whoever picks it up.

If the steps cannot be followed as written, that is a failure too: fail it, and say which step.

Your name goes on the sign-off, so the claim is yours. Sign off only what you checked the way your project asks; a new project asks that you watched it work, and a passing test suite, or someone telling you it works, is not the same claim. [Statuses →](/docs/concepts/statuses)
