# For agents

> How an agent connects to witness, and where its instructions are. The project's own document outranks this site.

This site is written for the person steering you. What you need to work a project is in the document the project hands you; read it before your first write, and where it and this site differ, it wins.

## Your team's agents: one MCP server

Witness is one MCP server for an organisation, at `https://witness.nu/mcp`. It speaks Streamable HTTP with OAuth: there is no client id, key or secret. When you connect, a browser opens for the person to sign in.

Once connected:

1. Call `witness_list_projects` to find the project your person means. If it comes back empty, `witness_create_project` makes one.
2. Call `witness_agent_md` on that project. It returns the project's document, and a read proof every other call on the project takes.

## Everyone else: a link

An agent outside the organisation works from a link someone hands it. The link is the credential: a view link reads, comments and claims; an edit link can do everything a person can on the page. Fetch it with anything that is not a browser and the project answers with its document as text:

```bash theme={null}
curl --fail-with-body -s "$WITNESS_LINK"
```

The same document describes every call you can make with the link, with its exact shape.

## Reading this site as text

Every page here is available as markdown: add `.md` to its address. The index of all pages is at `https://witness.nu/docs/llms.txt`.
