# MCP tools

> Every tool the witness MCP server offers an agent, as the server registers it.

A connected agent sees a small set of tools at once, and reaches the rest through `search_tools`, so a session does not carry every tool's description in its context. The shapes of each call are in the project's own document, which the agent reads first. [For agents →](/docs/reference/agents)

| `witness_list_projects` | Your projects. Call this to find a project's id when you were not given one; every project-scoped tool takes the `projectId` it returns. Archived projects are not listed. `position`: Where a person placed this project on the organisation's layout. Nearness is theirs to mean; read it as they would. A project nobody has placed has none. | always |
| `witness_agent_md` | All agents start here: the project document, with the read proof every other call on this project needs. | always |
| `witness_create_project` | Make a new project for your organisation — call this when list\_projects came back empty, or none of the ones listed are the right one. Takes a title; everything else starts at an editable default the reply says how to change. | always |
| `witness_list_cards` | The cards, in the project order — which is the priority. Without `status`, the working set. | always |
| `witness_get_card` | One card in full — its comments, its attachments, and the version you need to change it. | always |
| `witness_update_card` | Change a card — only the fields you change. Send the version you read as `version`. | always |
| `witness_update_cards` | Change many cards in one call — each one lands or is refused on its own. | always |
