witness for Mac
witness for Mac 0.1.16
- Running, beside a session, now names each server the way its row under Conversations does, and shows only the address the server printed when it started, such as localhost:8787, instead of every port it opens. A web address opens in the browser; another kind of service, such as a database, shows its address to copy.
- Stop a server from its row under Conversations. Running no longer has a Stop of its own.
witness for Mac 0.1.15
- Opening the app no longer flashes "witness can't reach witness.nu" before your project loads. The message appears only when witness.nu really doesn't answer.
witness for Mac 0.1.14
- Screenshots: paste a screenshot into a message and it shows in the conversation; click it to see it full size. It is kept once on your Mac rather than inside the conversation.
- Rewind now goes back in the same conversation rather than starting a new one, and can put your files back too: choose conversation and files, conversation only, or files only. If a file could not be put back, it says which.
- Where sessions work: a project's first session asks whether its sessions get their own copy or work right in your checkout. In your checkout, one session works at a time; starting a second one tells you which session is there. Change it in Settings > This Mac.
- A session shows the servers running in its folder; open one in the browser from there. A session in its own copy starts its own server when you ask to try its changes, so you see what it changed rather than another copy's.
- A mode you pick in a session, such as Auto, is where new sessions start.
- A teammate that published an artifact no longer stays on Thinking after it has finished.
- A turn Claude Code starts by itself, such as after a background task reports back, now shows its status and suggested next steps instead of plain text.
witness for Mac 0.1.13
- Chrome: a Claude session in the app can use your Chrome, as
claude --chromedoes in Claude Code. Turn it on per session from "Claude Code" in the line under the message box. It takes effect with your next message, which restarts Claude; if that would stop something still running, the app names it first. - What the agent does in the browser shows as its own group in the conversation.
witness for Mac 0.1.12
- Remote Control: a Claude session in the app can be picked up from claude.ai/code or the Claude app on your phone. Turn it on in the line under the message box; your choice becomes the default for new sessions.
- Rewind: go back to an earlier message in a session and continue from there, as /rewind does in Claude Code. The conversation goes back; your files stay as they are.
- ⌘N starts a session and ⇧⌘N writes a card, from anywhere in the app. Both are in the File menu too.
- A turn's status and suggested next steps no longer go missing when the agent ends its message with them in a different order.
witness for Mac 0.1.11
- Sessions start again. In 0.1.10, every Claude session stopped with "The session could not start: agent process exited". Signing the app had blocked the Claude adapter it ships with.
- A subagent that has finished stays finished, instead of showing as a teammate that works forever.
- Archive now waits only while a turn you started is running. A wake-up, teammates or background commands no longer block it.
witness for Mac 0.1.10
- witness for Mac is now signed and notarized by Apple, so a new install opens like any other app, with no trip to System Settings.
- Suggested prompts sit above the message box: the agent's own next steps, and one of your project's prompts, a click away.
- A command running in the background opens to show what it is for, how long it has run, and Stop. Once it ends, its line opens its output.
- The app no longer looks in your home folder to check that your agent reaches witness, so macOS stops asking for access to Music, Photos and Documents.
witness for Mac 0.1.9
- Codex sessions run on Codex's newer adapter.
- Claude Code sessions need Claude Code 2.1.83 or later.
/clearempties the conversation but keeps what the session was started with.- A message you send while Claude is working gets its own answer, instead of the turn ending early.
- A session started on a card keeps the card claimed and can watch it. Handing the session off hands the watch over too.
- A command Claude leaves running in the background keeps the session Working, and its row says what the command is for.
- If the agent refuses the model you chose, the session still starts on the agent's own model and tells you so.
- Stopping a turn also closes the steps it cut off, so none are left looking unfinished.
- The GitHub picker lists your organisations' repositories too.
witness for Mac 0.1.8
- A session can run on Codex as well as Claude Code. You choose the agent for each session, and Codex's "Add witness" signs you in on the same trip to the browser.
- Before your first session, one setup list shows what's still needed. Where the Mac allows it, you can do each step right from that list.
- Esc stops whatever is running. When teammates are working, the first press stops only Claude and a second press stops the whole turn. Esc never touches a teammate.
- Ctrl+B sends a running command or subagent to the background, as in Claude Code. Background commands show while they run, and you can stop them.
- A session shows when the agent is compacting the conversation, the agent's own warnings, and the mode the agent actually runs in.
- You can see which branch each repository starts from, and choose it. Starting a session brings its copy of the repository up to date with that branch.
- An idle session lets its Claude Code process go, and a session can start in your working folder.
- A session whose history this Mac lost comes back with its history.
- Archiving a session removes its folder, but only once nothing in it would be lost.
- A session no longer refuses to start when the agent can't reach witness.
- The conversations list keeps a row only for what's at work and folds the rest. The session's side panel lists only pull requests Claude named itself.
witness for Mac 0.1.7
- A teammate you message after reopening Witness now shows as working while it works, instead of reading as stopped.
witness for Mac 0.1.6
- The Branch view of a session's changes now shows only what that session did. A session that hasn't committed anything shows nothing, however far main has moved on, and work that landed from other branches no longer appears as the session's. After the session's pull request merges, it shows what that pull request brought.
witness for Mac 0.1.5
- A message you send while Claude is working now reaches it during the turn: Claude finishes the step it's on and reads your message before the next one, instead of waiting until the turn ends.
- An open session can show what it changed: the files, uncommitted or on the branch, and each file's diff.
- The session's side panel lists the artifacts it published, and every section there puts what was touched last at the top.
- Hovering a card id shows the card: its title, its status now, and why.
- When the agent loads a skill, the conversation says so on its own line.
- Typing /mcp in the message box shows the session's MCP servers, with Reconnect and an on/off switch.
witness for Mac 0.1.4
- The tray at the foot of the page now tells you what happened to a session while you were elsewhere: it asked you something, finished, or failed. Something that happens on the session's own page, or while you're on the Sessions list, doesn't show up there, because you saw it.
- Quitting witness while a session is running now asks first, whether you press Cmd-Q, close the window or restart to update. Logging out or shutting down the Mac doesn't wait for an answer.
- "Restart to update" is now one quiet line, and it restarts straight away.
- In a session, the line saying how a turn ended now reads as a sentence.
witness for Mac 0.1.3
- Esc stops the running turn again. What you've queued goes next instead of an error appearing.
- Opening a finished session now clears "Ready for review".
- Typing "/" at the start of the message box lists the session's commands.
- A teammate working in the background no longer shows as idle, and no longer ends the session while it's still working.
witness for Mac 0.1.2
witness now finds updates while it's open and downloads them in the background. When one is ready, a quiet line at the foot of the left rail, or at the end of the console's menu bar, offers the restart. It never stops a session in progress: it waits for them to finish, then for you to pause. Quitting witness also installs a ready update.
witness for Mac 0.1.1
Fixes the message shown when an update fails to install: it now points to your console at witness.nu/console instead of a download page that isn't open yet.
witness for Mac 0.1.0
The first build of witness for Mac. The project in a window of its own, sign-in through the browser, and the sessions a person runs beside their cards. Not yet signed by Apple, so macOS refuses it the first time: open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and choose Open Anyway beside witness. Later versions arrive through the app.
